Rescue crews working among the rubble at the partly collapsed Surfside, Florida condo building reported hearing sounds of cracking early Thursday in the part of the structure that's still standing, a new report said.
The search-and-rescue teams had to investigate whether the rest of the 12-story Champlain Towers South would also collapse, officials told ABC News.
Nearly half of the oceanfront condo building suddenly came crumbling to the ground on June 24 at around 1:30 a.m. while residents inside slept.
Officials said that 18 people, including two children, have been confirmed dead. More than 140 people remain unaccounted for.
